Three Signs That it’s Time to Replace Your Pool Filter

As anyone who owns one knows: pools are a great way to relax and cool down during the dog days of summer, but they come with a lot of work. Thankfully, technology makes it so that some of the work can be done for you. Filters, for example, take much of the burden for cleaning the pool off of the owner. While this makes it easier to own a pool, from time to time the filter does need to be replaced. When this happens, it’s important to be able to recognize the signs so you can replace the filter as soon as possible. Here are some signs that your pool filter needs to be replaced:

Dirty Pool Water

This one seems kind of obvious, but it still should be mentioned at the top of any list. When your pool water starts to look dirty or murky, the chances are that it’s time to change the filter. If you’ve started to notice a larger-than-normal amount of dirt and debris in the pool, this could be a sign that the filter has stopped doing its most basic job. If the water is cloudy or has turned green, this is another obvious sign that something is not right — and the first thing you should check is your filter.

Slower Cleaning Time

Maybe your filter is still cleaning the pool, but it’s taking longer than it used to? This is another sign that it’s time to replace it. You should know that a slowing filter — unless the slowdown is caused by a clog or something like that — will never improve. It will just continue to slow down until it runs out of steam completely.

Unbalanced pH

The dirt and debris in a pool affect its overall pH balance. A clean pool is relatively easy to keep balanced — but when the water gets dirty, all of those particles mess with your pH levels, making it almost impossible to get right. If you’ve been struggling lately to keep your pool’s pH balanced, then you might have a filter that needs to get replaced.

If you are noticing any of these signs, then your filter might need to be replaced. If you’re not sure, however, a call to the experts is never a bad idea. Feel free to contact us at Fiji Pools today to see how we can help you get your pool set right again.
